Key historical cultures that impacted on design
1930's - need for speed... race to be the fastest on land, sea or air. this resulted in products being designed is a streamlining style.

During the second world war engineers and designers were skilled up and technology advanced quickly because of the need to win the war. Vast improvements were made in electronics, materials, and ergonomics. Click here to find out the top 10
1950's saw rationing and people were looking for new exciting products. in the 1960's young people were fighting traditional values and beliefs and developing their own 'Youth Culture'. Designers and artists were influenced by British and American music industry and the hippie movement. The1970's saw the development of futuristic designs and automated products. These were also featured in populkar films and television programmes.
TASK: - Produce an A4 sheets with 5 typical designs from the 50's, 60's and 70's and explain why they are typical of the culture in that era.
Post-Modernism.
OK..this is not going to be easy to explain...... Previous design eras gave us a set of rules that must be followed for that type to exist, then came along another design movement with a different set of rules and ideals. Post Modernism basically threw all these away and said...'anything goes'
